Sailing

We are a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Training Centre for both sailing and windsurfing. RYA Instructors and Assistant Instructors will teach you, usually with no more than two pupils per Instructor. We offer training and assessment through the RYA National Dinghy Certificate scheme for Levels 1, 2, 3 and Seamanship. It is possible for a beginner to obtain RYA Level 1 after only one weekend. However, to progress to Dinghy Sailing RYA Level 2 or higher awards, practice to develop skills taught on the courses will be required. We provide this opportunity by offering single practice days in addition to the standard courses for those who have achieved RYA Level 1 as a minimum.

We also undertake training and assessment for Assistant Instructors.

Training & Assessment

Training will be given, from absolute beginners to Seamanship of the RYA Training scheme. It is possible for an absolute beginner to obtain RYA Level 1 during one weekend, or over two Saturdays, but to progress to Level 2 or above requires further experience/time on the water, such as attending one of our practice days, or further courses.

Practice days are tailored to participant's needs as much as possible. These sessions, which are run by arrangement, will not provide assessments so you should book onto a training course to gain awards. Contact the booking secreatary for further details.

If you want to take Scouts on the water by yourself after suitable qualification you will require an Adventurous Water Activity Permit. Contact your local DC for further details.

RYA Handbooks (£4.50) and log books (£4.75) are available to buy in advance from the Booking Secretary (please enclose an A5 stamped addressed envelope) or they can be purchased on the course.
